Where adventure meets stillness
Mountain trails in Vesterålen
From here, you’ll reach a handful of spectacular peaks and trails within a 20-minute drive. If you prefer a guide (who speaks English and French ), we can help arrange it – but for most, it’s as simple as lacing up your boots and setting off.
Whether you stay in the main house or the intimate seaside cabin, Skagenhaugen invites slow days, fresh air, and true presence.
Every direction opens to new horizons. You can sit by the fire with a cup of coffee and still feel the wind, hear the waves, and rest in the stillness.

The magic of the midnight sun
Have a late dinner outdoors, play a game of boules at midnight, or hike in a T-shirt while the world sleeps.
Skagenhaugen has blackout curtains, though many guests choose to leave them open.
Northern lights right outside your door
You don’t need a guided tour, the best place to watch them is right here.

Simply being
Lower your shoulders. Feel the quiet. Share meals and small moments. Read a book. Watch the sea change color. Light a candle or the fireplace during winter and let the morning coffee come with views of mountains and open sea.

Excursions & day trips
Trollfjord, Lofoten
RIB tours through dramatic mountain formations and breathtaking nature.
Kvitnes Gård
A renowned gourmet destination by award-winning chef Halvar Ellingsen – an exclusive dining experience reachable by boat.
Bird and eagle safari
Get close to sea eagles, puffins and, with a little luck, even orcas.
Fishing with a captain
For those who want to head out to sea, few experiences compare to a day with fishing lines, sea spray, and the true spirit of Northern Norway. We’re happy to help you get in touch with local fishermen who can take you out on the ocean.
If you’d rather rent a boat for your own fishing trip — or simply enjoy a boat ride on the open sea — this can easily be arranged just five minutes away. Sturdy aluminum boats are available for rent, fully equipped with fishing gear, safety suits, and outerwear. You can clean your catch indoors at the pier — and we kindly ask that the fish remains stay there, not at beautiful Skagenhaugen!

Randonnée / Ski touring
Vesterålen offers some of Norway’s most stunning ski ascents. Untouched snow, ocean views and quiet as your only companion.
From Skagenhaugen, several popular summits are just a short drive away. The season runs from February to April, when the days are filled with crisp blue light and sparkling snow.
Lighthouses & fishing villages
– Litløy Lighthouse: Boat transfer and guided visit, with a two-course local lunch served by the sea.
– Nyksund: A restored fishing village filled with culture, food, and access to the iconic “Queen’s Route”.
– Skipnes: One of the region’s most authentic fishing settlements, accessible only by local ferry.
– The fishing village of Hovden: An old fishing village on the western side of Langøya, popular among tourists and cabin owners. Here you’ll find wild, peaceful nature. From the airy mountain hike up Trehyrna to gentle walking trails, white sandy beaches, and a surfing paradise at Sandvika Beach.
Art & landscape
Just three minutes away, you’ll find artworks like "Mannen fra Havet" (The Man from the Sea) and "Rodd Fiske" (Rowed Fishing).
On Skagenhaugen itself stands "Mor, barn, fugl" (Mother, child, bird) – one of many artistic gems in this landscape.
